You think San Jose Cops are tough

Here in San Jose, CA there is an ongoing debate on the local SJPD and their use of force. San Jose's finest, it seems, make a load of arrests where the sole charge is "Resisting Arrest", kind of a misnomer because the actual charge is something like failing to comply with a police officer, or something like that.

As serious a subject as that as, I think the ultimate award for hard case cops goes to Officer Dustin Bradshaw of the Ozark Police Department in Arkansas who tased a 10 year old girl at the request of her mother.

You can read the details at The Smoking Gun, but short story, Bradshaw responded to a domestic disturbance call and found the young 10 year old behaving very badly. According to the officer "Her mother told me to tase her if I needed to." which he promptly did after the girl kicked him in the groin.

The Smoking Gun story and the police report don't really add a lot more detail, but you have to wonder how the situation eroded that police had to be called in the first place and what kind of mother would ask a cop to tase her own kid.

I can see many reasons. Its a sad state of affairs where the parents in the last 15 or so years seem to think they shouldn't or are not allowed to control their children. For fear of being to rough on them or having others view them as bad parents. Which they are, but for the opposite reasons.

Imagine that sponge like little mind desperately trying to find the boundaries of its world so it can begin to define itself and meeting little resistance. So it pushes and pushes and begins acting out because it gets whatever it screams for.

I don't know why people think this is a phase children go through. I certainly never spent my childhood terrorizing my mother. She always found very creative and assertive methods of putting me in check.

My favorite, and one of the few I remember was because I was picking my nose and eating it on the bus at age 3. She just calmly turned and told me, "Leave it there." So there I was very upset and crying with my finger still firmly lodged in my nostril. Never did the thought arise that I had the will power to defy her command. She was my creator after all.

Many years later and not so long ago in Texas, I was faced with a similar situation to the officers and different. at 2 in the morning on a Wednesday 2 11 or 12 yr old girls were running beating on the doors of my all the units on my floor. This didn't do much but annoy me until it continued for 30 minutes straight.

When I opened the door to tell them they needed to stop their mother told me to "go back inside and fuck yourself white boy."

The girls both very large and almost the same height as me became aggressive and began shoving me towards my unit. as I reached the door they were in a frenzy and were trying to push me into my own home and come through the door. I warned them once, ( that's all you get from me for being a teenager) to stop and not back out of my home and showed them that I had a pepper spray can. I couldn't close the door as they stood in it. They laughed and moved in.Well the laughs changed instantly to screams as I sprayed the girls and slammed my door.

Texas really sucks, I had to call the police and have them extract me from my unit as the entire ghetto came to kill me for ruthlessly attacking their little angels. They had actually shot and killed one of my neighbors just the week before.

They of course tried to press charges, which failed almost before they were filed, since both the little angels had violent arrest records and the mother was on parole.
