SLG 25th Anniversary Fan interview

A few weeks back I came across one of the most amazing essays on a life in comics I have ever read. It was Tom Spurgeon's (The Comics Reporter) piece called All Of  These Things That Have Made Us which was basically a summation of one's life when coming face-to-face with  a life threatening situation. It is a harrowing and emotional account and a must read even if you don't dig comics (although if you didn't, why would you be reading this?). Tom is one of the few people attempting to do real comics journalism and I want to make sure to wish him well here.

Anyway, I dare anyone over the age of 40 to read that article and then not step back and do a little self-examination. I know I did and I have to be honest not all of my conclusions were pretty. I was going to do my own sort of thought process on 25 years as a publisher and practically an entire lifetime in comics but kind of came up against a brick wall.

Then I realized that you, the loyal SLG Blog reading fan probably do not even know that your favorite comics publisher turned 25 this year. There was no press release, no big celebration or party and if it weren't for our good friends at Comic-Con International who devoted a small section of this year's Comic-Con Souvenir book to our anniversary, the event would probably have just passed unnoticed.

Which, in retrospective, probably not a good idea.

I have often thought that our fans and readers consider us to be more important in the overall scheme of things than anyone in the comics "industry".  So, I thought maybe what I should do is let fans conduct an interview and ask questions that they thought were important to them. I did something similar to this a few years back where I offered to field any question and respond to them in my blog. I was surprised at the level of thoughtfulness and sincerity of some of the things fired my way.

So, this time around I am going to field questions for a limited amount of time, Sept 2nd, and the try and cobble them together into one cohesive pseudo-interview.

So email your questions to me at dvado@slgpubs.com with the subject header of 25th Anniversary Interview by September 2nd. I will post the completed interview up here at the SLG site and on my danvado.com blog on September 9th (my birthday which seems like the best day to designate as the official SLG birthday). Feel free to ask anything, the only thing I ask you not do is send me questions designed to get me throwing people under a bus.

I will designate three people whose questions I found either original or inspired as Interview Question Sub-Commanders. Those three will get a signed copy of the Haunted Mansion Hardcover Welcome Foolish Mortal (I will sign it if you ask however that will require my breaking the shrink -wrapping) as well as a foil edition of the Haunted Mansion #1 (which I will also sign upon request).

Thanks to all for 25 years of whatever this has been.

Dan Vado
