USA Hockey Gold Medal?
As I type this, the USA Men's Hockey team is leading Finland 6-0 in the 2010 Olympic semi-finals. Unless disaster strikes the Men are headed to the Gold Medal game, which will more than likely be a rematch against Canada.
The Canadian men's hockey team is more than just an NHL All-Star team, it is a Dream Team, superstars occupy nearly every single roster spot. They should win the Olympic Gold without too much trouble, especially after having been handed a wake-up call courtesy earlier in the tournament.
However ....
1) It is the 30th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice US Men's Gold Medal victory over the Soviets in 1980.
2) Al Michaels ("Do you believe in miracles? Yes!!!") is in the building.
3) The last time the US Men's Team was in an Olympic Gold Medal game was in 2002, in Salt Lake City. Our opponent? Canada who won the game and the medal on US soil. Now, we have the US team playing for a Gold in a Canadian city.
4) Gary Suter was a young defenseman on the Miracle On Ice team in 1980. Now, in 2010, Gary's nephew Ryan is a D-Man on the US team. Not sure but I think the younger Suter is wearing his uncle's number.
In other words I am saying that karma is at work here. Maybe a bit of destiny. Not Miracle on Ice destiny since this is not a bunch of minor leaguers and college kids against what was essentially a pro team from the Soviet Union. But still, if the American pull off an upset just remember that you read this here first.
Go USA.
