Springfield Yellow Pages
One of my many ideas which will never see the light of day is a book which lists all of the fictional businesses which have appeared in the Simpsons. My name for this book? The Springfield Yellow Pages (get it, yellow pages).
The city of Springfield, which we only know exists somewhere in the United States and is one of the most wonderful places in the universe. It has a gulch the size of The Grand Canyon, a giant peak, a beach with a shipyard, a forest of almost national forest size an atomic power plant and a mall the size of the Mall of America.
And it has a ton of businesses, something for everyone. There are of course the ones we see in every episode (Krusty BUrger, the Kwik-E-Mart, Moe's Tavern, Android's Dungeon) but my fascination is with the places which exist solely as the punch-line of a joke or as a plot point.
Like the Tire Fire, which we have seen on a few occasions. There is also the Lefotrium, opened by Ned Flanders at the Springfield Mall. But the real gold is in the places we have only seen once.
The Swordfish Museum
Dingo Junction
Bloodbath and Beyond Gunshop
Veteran's of Popular Wars
Firewroks, Candy and Puppydogs
Ayn Rad School for Tots
and of course The Low Expectations Dating Service.
That's just what I saw this week! There is at least one real gem in every episode, and my plan is to sit and watch every episode of the Simpsons and list the all here.
